About me
Life in the sea is the absolute freedom .
Life in the sea, under sails is ........... even more .
We were 9 people ranging from 8-70 and we all had a blast. We left Volos at 10 am and came back at 6:30 pm. The yacht is super comfortable and has shading, which was a big plus.Marios and his son were first class crew. Taking care of the food and drinks and making sure we were pampered and well entertained. If you want a day at sea, this is the way to do it.
Nereida (Sea Nymph) is one of the most beautiful sailing yachts you have ever experienced, designed by the legendary John Alden, built over 5 years and meticulously maintained by its current owners, Marios and his son. Despite light winds, we had an absolutely splendid day on the water. My dear friend gave me this voyage as a special treat for my 60th birthday. We set off in the morning with another couple, visiting from Israel. As with the best of such adventures, we became fast friends with our new companions. Marios sailed us to Pythos, an uninhabited island with a gorgeous small cove where we could swim and snorkel. His son set off and brought back two fresh fish, a gift for my birthday. (We grilled them that night back ashore - delicious!) After a swim and a wonderful lunch, our hosts brought up a yogurt-and-cookie dessert in the shape of a 60! We sailed back ahead of a summer shower, which gave us a bit more wind as we headed back to the harbor at Kala Nera, near Volos. Just to be on a boat as magnificent as Nereida is a joy for any sea dog. This was truly one of the highlights of our birthday holiday.
A beautiful classic wood yacht very well maintained, operated by a great professional, helpful and friendly crew. The perfect combination for a good day. Only dolphins were missing…maybe well see them next time. The experience was fantastic and I will definitely recommend it.
We spent a really relaxing and memorable day on Nereida with Marios, who is a perfect host and captain. A couple of quick emails saw our day arranged, and the mooring is very easy to find. Be warned that parking in the area can be difficult, so leave some extra time to find a space. The boat itself is in great condition and very easy to move around on. We sailed to a small island just off Trikeri and spent a few hours swimming and enjoying a fabulous lunch of typical Greek fare. Marios is a very relaxed and engaging host, making us feel very at home on the boat. The ability to progress under sail is obviously dependent on the weather conditions, but Marios did his best to catch every breath of wind on offer for us. We definitely recommend a day cruise on Nereida, it has been a highlight of our trip to Pelion.
It started with a lot of emails with Marios who is the perfect host. We were with another couple on the boat. Sailed at 10:00 - arrived back at 18:00 after a wonderful relaxing day with swimming and great food and great company. The yacht is magnificent, Also very peaceful - no loud music - just time to swallow in the view - the sea - seagulls,,, Do it.. its wonderful and Marios and his son were great hosts
I was concerned when my partner arranged this trip: I can be sea sick crossing a puddle. How wrong can you be! This was wonderful. The Nereida is a beautiful boat, superbly fitted out and Charlotte explained how the boat`s construction provides such a smooth sail even when the wind is up and the sea is choppy. It is to do with the length of the keel but this can make steering interesting as demonstrated later by Marios reversing in high-ish winds into the berth at Volos harbour. We had a fabulous day. We were on board with 2 other guests from Charlotte`s apartments at Ano Gatzea plus 2 academics from Israel. The sea was so clear and so blue. About half an hour out of Volos, there was enough wind for the sails to go up and the boat fairly skimmed across the water. We stopped at Trikeri where the others opted to walk up to the monastery but it was full mid-day sun by then and this felt a bit too mad dogs and englishmen for us so we went bathing instead. Charlotte prepared a fabulous lunch - the melitzanosalata and the beetroot with rosewater were standout and Charlotte told us where to buy the hazelnut coffee to make her espressos.
Sailing on the Nereida was the highlight of our recent holiday to Greece. Nereida is a beautifully restored two masted classic yacht, owned by Marios who is Greek and Charlotte who is English. We started in Volos and, headed out across the Pagasetic Gulf towards some enticing little islands. On the way Charlotte gave us some really interesting information about the area, like the fact that Trikeri island has a monastery but has never had any monks! On this trip everybody spoke English but Charlotte also speaks Greek, French and German. When we arrived at the islands, they dropped anchor, and while we swam and snorkeled, Charlotte somehow managed to prepare the most delicious cooked lunch, finishing up with some exquisite little cinnamon topped espressos. Once we had finished and it all been cleared away, the wind had come up and the pair hoisted the sails. It was truly exhilarating skimming over the water in this beautiful boat. Charlotte and Marios seemed to have thought of everything. You could help yourself to fresh fruit. There are cold drinks; a choice of wines and beers as well as tea and coffee. Somebody on board had a birthday that day and there was even a birthday cake. On the way back we saw dolphins. In all perfect and as everything was included in the price, I thought it was excellent value for money.
Just to reiterate what others have said, the day trip out to the island on a beautiful boat, with dolphins on the way and wonderful food and drink, couldn't really be bettered. If you are in the area with a day to spare, you would be foolish not to take advantage of this opportunity. Tip: for those driving, there is a multi-story car park on Ogl Street, about 5-10 minutes walk from the mooring point.
We arrived in Horto and arranged a trip with eclipse sailing we thought we would have to go to Volos but very kindle we got a text from Marios to say he would collect us from a kala nera near close to where we are staying . We arrived and there was no mistaking the boat that was coming to collect us from the pier. What an amazing sight the 1939 American designed yacht built by a South African built from replicated plans in the 1980,s was coming to pick us up . We felt very privileged this wooden traditional sailing ship was in immaculate condition . Once on aboard we met the captain Marios and Helena . We were then offered tea or coffee followed a little later by fruit. We continued our journey to Dolphins leap to collect some other passengers up who after speaking with them were equally impressed with the ship too. We carried on to an island where we dropped anchor and swam around the boat in turquoise waters how luck we were . Then we got back and had lunch which was really lovely too being a vegetarian I thought we would struggle but the food was simply the best we all said how lucky we were to experience this trip and the delights of the captain and Helena . We will do it again next time but maybe longer if you look on the eclipse web site it doesn't do it justice to this amazing trip of a life time and the boat is just wonderful. The trip takes you to pagasetic gulf to the small island of paleo trike re .
To sail on a wooden ship with two of the finest skippers you will ever have on one boat. Both licensed in at least two countries, these folks have thought of everything to ensure a wonderful day. The know the waters, the winds, the cruise ship schedules and everything you could possibly dream of! Lunch was fabulous and the comraderie ideal. We've done day sail charters throughout the world, and this was, by far, the best we have ever seen. All you need to bring is the desire to have a great sail. The experience is magical. Don't miss out!
Fabulous sailing day with Marios during our recent cruise stop in Volos. We spent the day with he and his family sailing along the coast in his beautiful wooden sailboat. Stopping to swim in the crystal clear waters was a treat, followed by a wonderful lunch. I highly suggest spending the day sailing with Eclipse Sailing if you are in Volos.
Our family of 4 spent an enjoyable day. Due to the lack of wind, we motored along the coastline to a quiet beach. Swimming from the yacht was fun and refreshing. Lunch also was very tasty epecially having worked up an appetite from the swimming. With the afternoon winds, we sailed back to port.
We spent with my family an incredible day on Nereida visiting a small island near Paleo Trikeri. All three daughters and of course my wife enjoined the trip. We had a stop in a wonderful bay, swim in the sea, meantime the crew prepared a simple but very tasty lunch served with good wine. By return we had good wind so we had nice sailing too. The boat is a masterpiece, very nice shape, reconditioned and maintained. And the crew, very professional, friendly and committed to their boat. It was a pleasure to see father and soon working together so nice.
For unique 30 years anniversary day. We left Kala Nera to a one-day trip in the Pelion Bay. Arrived in a small cove of an isle, we swamm with our little pirates, they were just my family, the sun and the transparent blue waters. We enjoy a great meal with a delicious anniversary Mille-Feuille. After bathing a second time, we return to our home port with the chance to set the sails. Innoubliable. Thank you so much Charlotte and Marcos. Nicolas
It was an interesting and pleasant experience. We heard the story about that amazing wooden boat, had time for swimming, lunch and drinks. I cannot recommend this enough. The crew was so welcoming and they had thought of everything. Only things you should bring are sun cream and camera to capture all those moments. :-)
All I can say is a highlight of our two weeks in Greece, a great host and a fantastic boat, so glad I managed to book a day through Charlotte who was so very helpfull. As has been said before this is a very special boat in such a first class condition. The cruise takes you down the Pagasitic gulf to Trikeri island for lunch on the boat and a swim and snorkel. To sum up just a great day out and perhaps unique. Thanks, Agnes and Stephen (we hope to return).....
Initially I though 80€ for a boat trip was a bit expensive comparing it to previous holiday boat trips. But this is no ordinary boat trip! The whole day was amazing. Charlotte, our hostess kept us supplied with cold drinks and fresh fruit on our journey out across the bay towards Trichori island. We then anchored for about 3 hours just offshore and had time to swim in the beautiful calm clear sea before lunch was served. And what a treat that was - lots of delicious, homemade local dishes and fresh bread all served with cold wine and beer. This was followed by dessert and coffee and more swimming and sunbathing on this beautiful boat. Once we were ready to start our journey back everything had to be cleared away as by now the wind had got up and the sails were up and we were ready to sail back across the bay. This was very exciting especially for the 2 children in our group. A really wonderful day with a great crew of Charlotte, Marios and his son.
It was a really nice boat trip. Previous posts describe the boat so I am not going to repeat it again but about timing, we left Volos at 10 in the morning and got back at 6 pm. I was alone when I had booked this trip but I found six new friends from different countries and we had a wonderful time together
We had a brilliant time with a laid back boat trip with nice lunch, loads of swimming, sailing, boat history, and good conversation with our first class skipper.
We spend wonderful day. Out boat trip from Volos to Trikeri Island was very nice experience. Very interesting wooden boat, design by famous yacht designer - that Designed in Boston, build in South Africa and now is operating in Volos. Trip to Trikeri Island we did on motor, way back was sail. We seen one year ago dolphins....This year we were also lucky..we seen 3 of them - about 15/20 meters away from our boat. people say that there is 5-10% chance to see them. So when sailing - look around:) The whole trip was very pleasant experience. we have excellent swiming on trikeri island + tasty meal accompanied with white wine and beer. I strongly recomemend Eclipse Sailing for everybody who visits Volos and Pelion Penisula. Regards to Marios and his daughter.
My wife, daughter and I went on a full day sailing trip on the ``Nereida`` sharing with another family. Marios and his daughter treated us to an amazing day out on the sea on an amazing boat. A great lunch anchored off an island followed by a beautiful sail back to Volos made for a fantastic day. This should be a must do for all visitors to the Pelion.
From the minute we arrived on board the Nereida Marios and Helen went out of their way to ensure we had a fabulous holiday. Wonderful food and great accommodation on each island we visited . One of the many highlights was seeing dolphins. A most relaxing holiday and an experience not to be missed.
We had such a wonderful and relaxing day on the Niriida! The boat itself is a beauty on its own but the kindness of Marios and his daughters make the day even more special. For lunch they had prepared a delicious lunch and throughout the day they served free drinks and fruits. We had to be back in the harbour of Volos on time again to catch the last bus to our cruise boat, but that was no problem at all.
The official highlight of this day trip is the boat which is a wooden yacht called Nereid (= a sea nymph) straight out of the Onedin Line, which ages me. The real star is the spectacular views of Mount Pelion and the other mountains that ring the Pagasitic Gulf. This trip is a great way to see a corner of Greece that is not as well known as some. The routine after sailing out from a small town is a swimming stop with a good picnic lunch plus a visit to a small island called Trickery (well Trikeri) where there is a big monestry in an olive grove. Just sailing along admiring the scenery and snoozing was the best bit.
Ordinary people like me just don't get to travel on a boat like this. I'd been on Greek island boat trips before. You know the kind of thing - You choose the prettiest boat in the harbour with nice picture of sails - and then you motor around all day. So when they started the engine on this boat, I thought, "Here we go again!" Not a bit of it. The engine was just to get us out of the harbour. Once we'd left, the sails went up - I cannot tell you how beautiful it was to sail around the Pelion without the noise of an engine. Niritha is a historic sailing yacht recently restored by the owners Charlotte (English) and Marios (Greek). We were here out of season with a group of friends, so we hired the whole boat for the day but they also do ordinary day trips in season with lunch provided - you just have to book. I believe they also do short cruises to the Sporades.

The boat is truly beautiful and immaculately maintained. Marios was incredibly friendly and the food served was actually delicious.

A beautiful boat in a beautiful bay. A perfect way to spend a day sailing. Just remind Marios to pick up the salad!!
