Mytikas is a relatively modern village. People from neighboring villages and towns first inhabited Mytikas in the 19th century. Mytikas owes its name to its unique morphology which essentially translates from the nose, “Miti” in Greek. Throughout its history, Mytikas has been a common anchorage spot and port. Its commercial and transitive character meant that nearby villages such as Kalamaos could depend on it for supplying products. Mytikas has a population of 850 inhabitants, who widely practice fishing and agricultural activities. Before you rent a boat in Mytikas and exploring nearby destinations and seaside towns, it is really worth visiting the chapel of Agia Eleousa. This is literally a small cave on a mountain, allowing you to completely take in the picturesque village and the Ionian Islands afar.
